Taklamakan Desert: the barrack of heavenly bodies
Earth is unclosed itself in Taklamakan Desert, presenting itself without any covering. Located in the center of Tarim Basin, Taklamakan Desert with an area of 337.6 thousand square kilometers is the largest desert in China and the second largest shifting desert. Taklamakan Desert has several of types of dunes, containing nearly all kinds of types in China, such as pyramid-shaped dunes, quaquversal dunes and fish-scale dunes.
As the cemetery of civilization, Taklamakan Desert was the adventurers’ paradise last century. Treasures dug from Taklamakan Desert are found in several museums all over the world. It is the largest culture treasury underground, eating up countless towns, villages, lives, legends and details, remaining relics and sites, remaining remote echoes, fragmentary memories and limitless reveries. Loulan, Niya, Xiaohe, Milan, Rewake, Dandanwulike and such famous ancient cities record the prosperity and flourish of The Silk Road and become shining through the carefully burnishing by times, and become the kindling seeding in human’s heart. The Frescoes of angels, the silk of ancient China, Roman Column and Loulan beauties, and all of these carry such information that here is the only place where all of The Four Great Ancient Civilizations merge.

Taklamakan Desert is called as the sea of death and its dominate is desolation. However, it is endless to the haggard travelers.Thousands of years, expeditions, trade teams, treasure hunters, caterans and pilgrims with different motives came here. Perhaps, that attracting them is not the submerged civilizations, gold or other things, but is the fascination of the desert.The local people living there prove that Taklamakan Desert is not a place without lives. Not long time ago, shepherds in Yutian went through Taklamakan Desert to feed sheep. Taklamakan Desert is a road and belt to them.
Taklamakan Desert is called as the sea of death, and Sven Hedin translated it as you come in but can not go out. However, Taklamakan means the ancient homeland in Uyghur.
